About Alliance Francaise de la Peninsule de Monterey
The Alliance Française de la Péninsule de Monterey is a non-profit corporation devoted to promoting the use and knowledge of the French language and the appreciation of French culture. Membership is open to all who are interested in the goals of the organization. Throughout the seasons the Alliance organizes social and cultural events in French. These include lectures by prominent speakers on subjects dealing with French life, art, and literature, programs of French songs and music, and monthly luncheons where members can converse in French in a convivial atmosphere.
The Alliance Française was created in 1883 in Paris to encourage the propagation of the French language and culture and to foster friendly relations between France and the rest of the world. It is a non-governmental, non-profit organization with the largest network of French language and cultural centers in the world. There are 1,200 Alliance chapters in 112 countries, including 140 chapters in the United States, serving over 400,000 students. The French language is spoken on five continents and by more than 180 million people.
The Alliance Française de la Peninsule de Monterey is affiliated with The Federation of Alliances Françaises of the United States. It is represented by its General Delegation at the French embassy in Washington, D.C. and it’s supported by Fondation Alliance.
