About Alliance Francaise de Cincinnati

Alliance Française de Cincinnati is the primary French cultural institution in Greater Cincinnati. It is a non-profit organization founded in 1901 by Auguste Fredin, Consul of France in Cincinnati. Our Alliance is run by a Board of Directors, all volunteers, sharing a passion for French language and Francophone cultures, and eager to further spread their interest to the Tri-State region.

Alliance Française de Cincinnati is an independent chapter of a worldwide organization of Alliances Françaises. The founding fathers, amongst them Jules Verne and Louis Pasteur, established the guiding principles in 1883 in Paris. The network has over 800 chapters in more than 130 countries. There are 100 chapters In the United States alone, with over 30,000 members.

Our mission is to promote the appreciation of French and francophone cultures, increase the knowledge of the French language, and encourage interactions between French, francophone and American people through language classes, social events and information sharing.
